Last week, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius kicked off the 19th International AIDS Conference and spoke about recent initiatives aimed at advancing HIV care and programs. More specifically, she praised the success of Community Education Group (CEG), a public health organization that works throughout the Washington, DC community to improve HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and education. CEG was a 2010 Compass client, whose team helped them create a five-year strategic plan focused on optimizing their services. Secretary Sebelius applauded CEG?s commitment to guiding patients who test positive through the treatment process by providing access to primary care and transportation. Furthermore, Secretary Sebelius explains that ?nationally, our linkage to care rate is just 77%; with CEG it?s up above 96%, which is a huge step forward.? According to James Michel, a member of CEG?s Compass team, CEG?s ability to link patients to care was a key tenet of the strategy developed by the Compass team. Congratulations to Community Education Group and the Compass team on their achievement!
