National cancer study seeks Birmingham-area participants

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- A nationwide cancer study is looking for participants in the greater Birmingham area.

The Cancer Prevention Study-3, or CPS-3, focuses on better understanding the lifestyles, environment and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.

Participants must be people between the ages of 30 and 65 who have not been diagnosed with cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer being the exception).

After enrolling in the study, participants will be asked to update a health form every few years for the next 20 to 30 years. The study will see if participants get a cancer diagnosis and look into what may have led to it.

Enrollment for the study begins today, Aug. 22 and continues until Aug. 29.

To enroll, visit cps3birmingham.org to make an appointment, then show up at one of the following locations: Birmingham-area YMCAs, Birmingham's Crossplex or the Levite Jewish Community Center.
