(AP) ? Although Matt Barkley has already graduated from USC, he's eager to get to work on his final college project.

After a two-year wait for the chance to play for a national championship, the senior quarterback leads the No. 1 Trojans into their season opener Saturday against Hawaii and new coach Norm Chow.

The Coliseum is sold out in anticipation of a return to dominance by USC, which reigned atop college football for a good part of the previous decade while Barkley was a wide-eyed fan growing up in Orange County.

Barkley is at the controls of an offense with an impressive array of talent, including 1,000-yard receivers Robert Woods and Marqise Lee and 1,000-yard rushers Curtis McNeal and Silas Redd.

I saw your nanny: From Bad to Better - Glenn Lewis678's blog

PERSPECTIVE
From Bad to Better, and it only took 2 years! I have been a nanny off and on for the last 5 years. I took my first nanny job during my second semester of college. I had been babysitting since the age of 13, and at this point, I had taken 3 Child Development classes as well as volunteered at a local Day Care Center. I used Care.com and Sittercity.com to find a nanny job. I had posted my profile with background and driving checks on file. I had received numerous responses and answers to all of the jobs that I had applied to, and thought things were going great. I narrowed the replies down to 3 families that I thought were offering the perfect gigs.

Family 1: A work at home mom and a dad who worked outside of the home about 60-70 hours a week. They had one 8 month old son. They needed someone to come Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-5:30pm. They were offering $11 an hour with 4 paid sick days a year, and 2 weeks paid vacation a year (one week of my choice, and one week of theirs). They lived in a safe neighborhood within walking distance to a local library, local Park, Gymboree, Toddler Play Center, and a Children?s Museum. Family 2: Mom and Dad both worked outside of the home. They had one 4 and a half month old daughter. They needed someone Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. They were offering $12 an hour, no paid sick days, one week paid vacation. They lived in the same neighborhood as I, probably only 5 miles away from me. They were offering to buy the nanny a membership to the local Zoo, the local Gymboree, and the local YMCA. Family 3: Mom worked outside of the home while dad worked in a home office and traveled about 15 days of every month. They had a 6 month old daughter. They needed someone Tuesday-Saturday from 7am-4pm. They were offering $11 an hour, 3 weeks paid sick days/vacation days a year, and lived in the same neighborhood as Family #1.

I chose to work with Family 3, mainly because I felt as though I had really connected with not only the parents, but also the baby. They were offering what I was asking, and the schedule seemed to really work for me. I started the job, and everything went great?for about the first month. At the beginning of month two, dad began traveling more, and mom?s job was becoming more demanding. They asked if I?d be interested in becoming a live in, and I agreed upon the agreement of an increase in pay. I moved in the following week, and my pay had increased to $14 an hour. Mom started working 12 hour days, and we saw dad about a week every month. I became very connected to the child, and it was almost as though I was a parent to this baby as her actual parents were rarely around. It wasn?t long until I was responsible for this baby during every moment she was awake. Weekends and weekdays started to blend, and I was feeling trapped. I dropped all of my classes that semester, and it got to the point where I was never away from the baby. About 11 months into the job, it had become too much. I needed space, I needed me time, I just needed to get out.

After a week of finding the time, I was finally able to sit down with the mother and father. I expressed my concerns, and they had told me they agreed. They also chose this time to tell me that they were expecting their second child. (How they found the time, I will never know!) They told me that they felt as though I wasn?t a good match for their family. I was shocked, devastated, angry. I wasn?t a match for their child? I was with her every second of every day. I loved her as though she was my own. I couldn?t imagine not seeing her everyday. While I was the one to start the conversation, I didn?t expect to take such a shocking turn. They let me know that they would only need me for one more week. MB?s parents had decided to move in with them and help raise their grandchildren. Parents and I had agreed that I would still be able to see the little girl, and I accepted it. I worked the following week, and received my final paycheck. I wasn?t given a thank you for time/services, I wasn?t given any sort of bonus, I wasn?t even told goodbye by the parents.

I tried to contact the family numerous times that following month, and still to this day have never heard back from them. I felt like I had lost a part of me. I miss that little girl so much, still to this day. Since I left that job, I have been working as an Infant/Toddler Class instructor at many local Recreation Centers. I taught classes such as Baby Sign, Music and Movement, Baby Yoga, Focus and Flexibility, Mommy and Me, Ballerina Babies, and a few others. I did this job for about a year, before I decided to go back to school. Upon reaching the decision to go back to school, I decided to go back to a career as a Nanny. I began the strenuous search for a job, interviewed with many families. This time around, I made my requests very clear, demanded the use of a contract, searched more for a family who practiced parenting styles similar to mine.

After 3 months of searching, I finally found the job that worked for me. I now work for a family with a 6 month old baby girl. The parents both work outside of the home. We have a mutual trusting relationship. We have a respect for each other and are working together every day to raise this amazing baby. I have no complaints over my new job. I have been here for 3 months now, and have not had a bad moment in this job. They have accepted me into their family. I work M-F 7am-3:30pm. I am invited to their weekly family game night. I occasionally babysit for them outside of my scheduled work hours. I get a month off every three months paid. After 2 years, I have found my happiness. - Anonymous

Millipede family added to Australian fauna

Friday, August 31, 2012

An entire group of millipedes previously unknown in Australia has been discovered by a specialist ? on museum shelves. Hundreds of tiny specimens of the widespread tropical family Pyrgodesmidae have been found among bulk samples in two museums, showing that native pyrgodesmids are not only widespread in Australia's tropical and subtropical forests, but are also abundant and diverse. The study has been published in the open access journal ZooKeys.

"Most pyrgodesmid species are so small they could be easily overlooked," explained millipede specialist Dr Robert Mesibov, of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston, Tasmania. "What's interesting is how thoroughly overlooked they've been. We now know there are dozens of native species of these millipedes in our warm, wet forests, stretching over more than 2000 km on Australia's east coast."

Six new species and three new genera of the colorful, curiously sculptured millipedes have now been described from Australia, all from the state of Queensland.

"It's a great example of the value of museum collections," said Dr Mesibov. "Scientists from the Queensland Museum and CSIRO Entomology collected bagfuls of leaf litter in hundreds of places over many years. They extracted bugs in bulk from the fresh litter and took out just the ones they were studying, usually beetles. The remaining bugs are in 'residues' stored in the Queensland Museum and the Australian National Insect Collection."

Dr Mesibov said it's not generally appreciated that zoological specialists find most of their new species in museums. "Sure, biological expeditions to previously unexplored places turn up exciting new species. But there are plenty of surprises waiting when you go rummaging through the residues on museum shelves. In this case, it was a whole family of animals not known from Australia."

NASA telescope detects 'bonanza' of humongous black holes

NASA's?Wide-field Infrared Survey telescope has spotted millions of 'supermassive' black holes gorging on matter, says the space agency.?

The cosmic find comes from data collected by NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey (WISE) telescope, which scanned the entire sky in infrared light from December 2009 to February 2011. The full catalog of observations by?WISE?during its mission was publicly released in March, and astronomers are still poring through this celestrial trove for discoveries.

"WISE has found a bonanza of?black holes?in the universe," astronomer Daniel Stern of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif., said during a news briefing today (Aug. 29). WISE turned up about three times as many?black holes?as have been found by comparable surveys in visible light, offering up a total of 2.5 million new sources across the sky.

These black holes aren't the average tiny, dense objects created by the collapse of dead stars, but rather humongous "supermassive" black holes that have been caught feasting on matter falling into them. Such active black holes are known as quasars, and are some of the brightest objects in the universe, because of light released by the infalling matter. [Photos: Millions of Black Holes Seen by WISE Telescope]

"We expected that there should be this large population of hidden quasars in the universe, but WISE can now identify them across the sky," Stern said. "We think these quasars are really important for shaping how galaxies look today."

Cosmic Hot DOGs

In addition to this haul of gorging black holes, WISE has turned up a smaller population of rarer objects researchers are dubbing "hot DOGs," for hot, dust-obscured galaxies.

These galaxies are thought to be extremely bright, but appear very faint to us because their light is shrouded by dust.

"It is actually the most obscured objects in the WISE sky that are among the brightest objects in the universe," said Peter Eisenhardt, a WISE project scientist at JPL. "They're definitely a different type of beast than we?ve seen before."

The?hot DOGs observed by WISE?number about 1,000, and are mostly spotted from very far away, meaning they existed in the early days of the universe, because their light has taken billions of years to travel to Earth.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II

By Jim Fisher

The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II ($199.99 direct)??is the standard kit lens that is bundled with APS-C Canon EOS D-SLR cameras. When you buy it along with a camera it only adds about $100 to the price, and at that price it's a bargain. If you're in the position where you have a Canon body without a lens, the 18-55mm is the least expensive option you have if you want a zooming optic. It covers a 29-88mm field of view in terms of traditional 35mm photography.

The lens itself is light, thanks in part to its largely plastic construction. It measures 3.3 by 2.7 inches (HD) and weighs 7.1 ounces. The mount is plastic, which is not as durable as metal mounts found in more expensive lenses, and the zooming action isn't as smooth as that of higher-end optics. The front element rotates as the lens changes focus, which makes it difficult to effectively use a circular polarizing filter to minimize glare, as the effect of that type of filter changes as it rotates.

I used Imatest to check the sharpness and distortion characteristics of the lens when paired with the Canon EOS Rebel T4i . The lens exceeds the 1,800 lines per picture height required for a sharp image throughout its zoom range. At 18mm f/3.5 it records 1,818 lines, which increases to 2,128 at f/5.6 and 2,167 at f/8. Zooming in to 34mm gives you 1,891 lines at f/4.5, 2,104 lines at f/5.6, and 2,198 lines at f/8. It's softest at 55mm, where it records 1,762 lines at f/5.6 and 2,005 lines at f/8. Distortion is an issue on the wide end, where the lens exhibits a noticeable 2.8 percent barrel distortion, but it's negligible at 34mm and 55mm.

The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II is one of the better kit lenses available, but it's still a kit lens. It's got a relatively slow aperture that limits its use in dimly lit environments, it doesn't have the best build quality in the world, and distortion is evident at its widest setting. Still, it is reasonably sharp and optically stabilized. If you have a big budget, Canon's top-end APS-C zoom, the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM , is an excellent performer?but it costs five times as much as the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6.

Breast Cancer Drug Could Help Prostate Cancer Patients' Side ...

Breast Cancer Drug Helps Prostate Cancer Patients' Side Efects

The breast cancer drug tamoxifen may reduce some side effects of men undergoing prostate cancer treatment, according to a new study?published August 27 in the journal BMC Medicine.

The study involved researchers who looked at four different studies of men with prostate cancer, reports Fox News. The study discovered that, when the men?s treatments were supplemented with tamoxifen, they were less likely to see breast enlargement and breast pain than those who did not take the breast cancer drug.

The researchers showed that men who took tamoxifen were 10 percent less likely to have breast enlargement after six months and six percent less likely to experience breast cancer. The tamoxifen breast cancer drug works to counteract the effects of estrogen on breast tissue.

The breast cancer drug was also able to prevent these side effects of prostate cancer treatment better than other drugs like anastrozole, which also counteracts estrogen?s effects but in a different way. Men tend to stop prostate cancer treatments because of the growth of breast tissue and breast pain, according to the researchers.

Lead study author Dr. Frank Kunath of the University Clinic Erlangen in Germany stated that:

?If men know that there is a successful option for reducing the breast symptoms associated with treatment for prostate cancer, they may be more likely to see their doctor when symptoms of cancer first appear, and consequently reduce the number of unnecessary deaths.?

US News went on to note that Dr. Kunath also stated:

?Not all men will suffer [breast enlargement] during anti-androgen therapy. However, if men know that there is a successful option for reducing the breast symptoms associated with treatment for prostate cancer, they may be more likely to see their doctor when symptoms of cancer first appear, and consequently reduce the number of unnecessary deaths.?

The researchers also showed that few of the prostate cancer patients who were treated with the breast cancer drug tamoxifen stopped taking their medication during the year-long treatment, and the drug also caused no significant side effects.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Some two dozen topless women protested in a New York City park on a hot, sweaty Sunday as part of what they called "National Go-Topless Day" to draw attention to inequality in topless rights between men and women. There were topless men in the park, too, but nobody paid them much attention, a disparity, organizers said, that demonstrated the need for the event. The topless women drew crowds of onlookers who took pictures and video with their cell phones. ...

Man killed by bear in Alaska was a San Diego photographer

A man killed by a grizzly bear in Alaska's Denali National Park last week was identified Sunday as a 49-year-old San Diego photographer, who had been taking pictures of the animal for at least seven to eight minutes before the attack, park officials said.

Richard White, was between 50 and 100 yards away from the bear that ultimately mauled him Friday, according to images found on his camera, park spokeswoman Maureen McLaughlin said. He is the first person to die in a bear attack in the history of the park, which covers 4.7 million acres.

Hikers are typically advised to stay at least 300 yards away from a bear, McLaughlin said.

The bear, which weighed an estimated 600 pounds, was shot and killed by a state trooper as he was defending the spot where White's remains were found.

The incident began Friday afternoon when three hikers found a camera, a backpack and evidence of a violent struggle, including torn clothing and blood, along the Toklat River. They reported what they found to park rangers, who sent a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft to search for White, officials said.

Rangers in the helicopter determined that the bear had dragged White's remains from a flat expanse along the river to a more secluded brushy area 150 yards away, where it stored its food.

Investigators determined the bear had killed White after reviewing the bear's stomach contents, the images on the camera and other evidence, officials said. The pictures showed the bear foraging in the brush along the Toklat River, McLaughlin said.

"For a good [part] of that time, the bear was unaware that anyone was there," McLaughlin said. "There were no dramatic signs of aggression."

Bear attacks have resulted in minor injuries in recent years, McLaughlin said. But several decades have passed since someone in the park was severely mauled, she said.

White had been backpacking in a backcountry section of the park for three nights when he was killed. Park officials imposed an emergency closure prohibiting all hiking and camping in that portion of the park and others nearby until further notice.

Although no other park visitors were seen near the site of the bear attack, park employees contacted three backpackers in adjacent areas Saturday and flew them by helicopter to the Toklat River Rest Area.

5 Red Wine Health Benefits

Strict nutritionists and doctors will say that all alcohol is bad because of the potential for its abuse. They are completely correct in their assertion that alcohol can lead to dependency, depression and worse. On the other hand, responsible adults who like to enjoy a glass of their favorite wine varietal can receive some health benefits. Like anything in life, moderation is key.

Stomach Health

For years doctors have been promoting red wine as a way to increase heart health but there has been other benefits hiding in the shadows. One benefits of drinking red wine are the probiotics that live in the drink. Probiotics are living micro-organisms that help digestion of food. Probiotics are added to some foods while fermented food and drinks like red wine contain them naturally. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study that concluded red wine intake can help these probiotics (micro-organisms) grow in the human body and increase digestive health.

Antioxidants

Red wine contains antioxidants like Resveratrol and other Polyphenols that help increase the health of your cardiovascular system and have anti-aging properties. Resveratrol?s main source is from red wine grapes and their skin. This substance mainly helps individuals reduce blood clots, bad cholesterol and prevents blood vessel damage.

Fits Your Diet

Many people think that wine can lead to weight gain. Like anything, if you drink red wine in excess you may gain weight. If you couple your red wine consumption with an active lifestyle and healthy diet, red wine can actually help you maintain a healthy weight. Dr. Arthur Agatston is a Cardiologist and creator of the South Beach Diet. Dr. Agatston says, ?When alcohol is mixed with food, it can slow the stomach?s emptying time and potentially decrease the amount of food consumed at the meal.? The alcohol of choice for Dr. Agatston is red wine because of its antioxidant content.

Lower Your Cholesterol

Alcohol has been proven to raise ?good? cholesterol (also known as HDL) by a rate of over 20 percent if consumed in moderation alongside a healthy diet. ?Good? cholesterol has been shown to lower cholesterol in the human body. Since red wine has other health benefits, it is the number one recommended drink to consume in moderation over beer and spirits.

Boost Brain Power

A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine showed that women who consumed alcohol had increased brain power. The study evaluated over 12,000 women between 70-81 years of age. The research showed an amazing 23% reduced risk of a decline in mental capacity when compared to nondrinkers!

While red wine is the number one alcohol to drink for health reasons, individuals should still consult with their doctor and always drink in moderation. Like Aristotle wrote, ?It?s best to rise from life like a banquet, neither thirsty nor drunken.?

Every 4 years, something more than just politics

WASHINGTON (AP) ? So much can change in four years.

Some 16 million babies have been born in the United States since 2008, the last year the Democrats and Republicans met to anoint their presidential nominees. Kids who were toddlers then are starting kindergarten now; that year's nervous high school freshmen are beginning college or work, or at least anxiously looking for jobs.

Nearly 10 million Americans have died, including political lights Geraldine Ferraro, Betty Ford and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who bade his dramatic convention farewell four years ago.

The Iraq war is over, the war in Afghanistan winding down. Osama bin Laden is dead. Yet Guantanamo Bay still holds 168 terror suspects. And too little has changed in a discouraging economy since 2008.

The political conventions are back to ask again if we, as individuals and a nation, are better off than we were four years ago. That raises the question, where will we be four years from now?

It's fashionable these days to complain that the party gatherings no longer matter, that they're just phony made-for-TV moments ? speeches and sappy films and balloon drops strung together into protracted campaign commercials. That's true, as far as it goes.

The conventions no longer matter in picking presidential nominees. But that's because the choosing moved from the old smoke-filled rooms and rowdy delegate halls to a months-long carnival of democracy: debates and caucuses and primary voting across the country.

The conventions are made for TV. But that means made for all to see, across America and even the world. And the audience now gets to talk back, drafting its own instant platform via Twitter and Facebook and all our other electronic impulses.

The conventions are taxpayer-subsidized political commercials. But if they were only that, few would watch. We've seen too many mean ads already. By now most voters have made up their minds about Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, anyway.

At their best, every four years, these mud-slinging, self-serving, partisan-by-definition displays rise to offer something more: moments that transcend politics.

Together, the two conventions make up a national stock-taking, a pause to remember our roots, figure out who we are and decide what's truly important, without feeling too hokey about it. Like a virtual family reunion, Americans gather around their televisions, computers or smartphones to argue or agree, celebrate the good stuff, mourn our losses and regret our mistakes, to regroup, to look ahead.

The conventions are Barbara Jordan, Jesse Jackson and Obama, their very presence on the podium insisting that the American dream no longer be deferred. And Ferraro and Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton, bursting through doors once locked to them.

They are the thousands of Vietnam War protesters chanting outside the 1968 Democratic meeting, who couldn't be silenced by the tear gas and billy clubs of the Chicago police.

They are Robert Kennedy eulogizing the slain president who was also his big brother Jack. Nancy Reagan telling America that its Great Communicator is being hushed by Alzheimer's. Mary Fisher pleading with the nation to come to its senses and find its compassion so her children wouldn't feel ashamed someday to say out loud their mother died of AIDS.

Every four years, the political conventions come along to remind us how wrong we were about some things in the past. And that we know nothing, really, about what's to come.

It's no coincidence that Ronald Reagan, a genius at wielding metaphor, chose to speak at the 1976 GOP convention about what he would write in a time capsule letter to the future.

The conventions are time capsules, lovingly created and then buried in the rush to Election Day.

Dig through past conventions, their speeches and platforms, and you'll find a record not just of Americans' politics but also of their worries and fears, longings and dreams. Not just how the parties gave us Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt. But also how passion to do something about slavery and civil rights and women's rights and poverty percolated up from the people and into the convention halls and the White House.

This year's speakers will talk about gay marriage, religious freedom, women's health, the national debt, joblessness. And someone may say something in a way that sticks in the national consciousness and helps build a consensus that one day, in hindsight, will seem blazingly obvious.

Conventions are far from perfect. Too much of their time is wasted on things parochial and elitist and just silly. Not much has changed since Bob Dole summed up the GOP event of 1980: "The introducers spoke longer than the speakers. And the speakers spoke too long."

But what else have we got? Self-consciously triumphant inaugurals, ponderous State of the Union speeches. Debates promise some spontaneity, but they're too narrow, focused only on four candidates.

The conventions are a political Olympics, democracy as spectator sport: Score the best efforts of mayors and governors and senators who might be president someday. Catch those candidates and insiders who claim to hate Washington and loathe politics openly reveling in the raucous, strapping national debate, whatever they prefer to call it. Watch regular folks still willing to turn out, in silly hats and buttons, to cheer for something they believe in.

Sure, it can feel predictable. But that's something to be grateful for ? a sign that today's primaries are running fairly smoothly and the nation's many troubles are less devastating than the crises of the past.

Isn't that a good thing so long as it lasts?

After all, the political stage managers won't be able to corral the chaos outside or quiet rising voices within the hall if America faces another crisis as deep as the Depression, another war as despised as Vietnam, another moral test as big as civil rights.

Kodaks announces asset protection cinema film, thumbs nose at your digital movie collection

Kodak may not be beloved by digital filmmakers, but it's not fallen out of love with the talkies. It's new "asset protection" cinema film is designed to save motion pictures from being lost if your digital-storage-medium-of-choice is rendered obsolete. It's designed for long-term archive storage, with your Hollywood blockbuster stored in a "human-readable" format that'll remain usable "well into the future." As such, the reels are loaded with dyes that will reportedly remain stable for "decades," but the company thinks will remain viable for over a century -- in stark contrast with the short life of your average hard-drive. It'll add a monochrome offering to the range later in the year, but if you want the color version now, your people will have to talk to Kodak's people, Mr. Producer.

Solid State Quantum Computer Finds 15=3x5 — 48% of the Time

Disclaimer: I am a former researcher in the field, left to some other job.

What you can see at UCSB is what happens when a team of scientists which ae skilled in engineering, working as a team, and collaborating with everybody happens to have the right guy as the leader (with the right policy about co-authors on publications).

Everybody whom i met from this team was open, honest, and friendly; they have worked hard and long on it and they accumulated some of the best people.

They deserve the success they have now! I think there may be a small break now in their publications, since i have the ffeling they now may work on overcoming the next big roadblocks (but now they they have all the backing they could need for it).

I also have to state it will be a long long way to the first QC. While i believe that every step like this will be more than just replicated at the NSA, i believ that they wont be more than 10 years ahead, and i estimate 20y-30y until qc works better than classical qc (although I also hope and believe that breaktroughs are possible).

Just started out an an internet entrepreneur can be more than overwhelming, it can be down right impossible. Many people want to make money online, but only a small percentage of seekers ever find their way. I have luckily found many simple ways to create income online. Here are a few of the simplest internet business models that you can start free or with very low cost. Each one can be profitable when done right, and used together you can simultaneously make money from multiple sources for a large, reliable passive income. And if you are one of the internet entrepreneurs who is going to stick with it for the long term, these businesses will give you a lot of training and experience that will later help you out with other ventures.

Create Squidoo Lenses for FreeLooking for a free way to easily generate some extra income online? Squidoo.com is a free website that allows free members to build their own webpages on various topics, simple informational pages related to anything you want to share. You simply use the tools to build great looking webpages, and then those pages are used to earn advertising revenue for Squidoo, which in turn shares it with you. Creating Squidoo pages is as simple as doing routine functions online. If you can use a word processor you can use Squidoo. Point and click, add information and pictures, and voila, you have an great money making webpage. You can make as many pages as you want, which many have done to earn great passive income simply by sharing information. It doesn?t get much easier than this.

Host an Information Rich Niche WebsiteA website is such a great tool for generating passive income. It never needs a break so it never stops earning. And because the internet connects users worldwide you can access millions of potential clients with rapid speed. You do not need to have things to sell or a business to promote. As soon as your site begins generating traffic you can monetize in a number of simple ways. You simply need to provide information on any topic of your choice, and as your website begins generating traffic, you can monetize your traffic through a variety of monetization methods that will provide a great passive income from numerous sources. A single website can pump out ongoing passive income from several sources simultaneously, including AdSense income and affiliate marketing. You can even build a blog for free, and if done properly it could become a terrific source of passive income. Choose niches that you are interested in because the more you have to share, the easier it will be for you to create enough unique content to generate a substantial following.

Create Your Own Digital Products and Market Them You can package their information in the form of ebooks, newsletters, web-inars, and ecourses, and sell them online to earn a virtually unlimited amount of money. Create digital, downloadable products, and sell them through any method of internet marketing that you excel in. If you have a website and a mailing list, those will be two very valuable assets for you. You can bundle your products and sell them at a discounted rate, as most internet entrepreneurs report increased sales and revenues when they use this power strategy. And if you do not have a mailing list, which is a powerful income generating tool, you can create a free product and offer it in exchange for email addresses.

Precisely What Outdoor Patios Are Perfect For

by Louie Dale
Send Feedback to Louie Dale
Request Reprint | Print | About Author | Report Problem | Tweet This There are a lot of people in South Africa that like to invite friends around for a braai and also to entertain family. There are a few choices when it comes to doing this type of thing. Let us have a look at what good patios are when it comes to entertaining family and friends.

The best thing about patios is that you can have a covered, enclosed or even open outdoor patio. Which means that, based on your preferences, you can entertain any way you like to do so without having to build costly extensions to your home just for an entertainment room. If you get the correct type of cover for your outdoor patio then you can change from a covered and open outdoor patio with ease.

If you happen to have an enclosed patio you will then be in a position to entertain outside of your home most of the year. The actual walls of the outdoor patio will protect your guests from the wind and cold of winter as well as from the sun of summer time. If it is a little too cold then you simply need to start up the braai or perhaps a heater and everything is going to be fine again.

The thing that patios are perfect for is keeping individuals out of your home and in an entertainment area. It makes cleaning up after a party a lot easier for all concerned. You will not have individuals walking all over your carpets and rugs, they will most ly sit in their seats and socialise with each other. They will need to go indoors to go to the restroom now and then, but they would have to from time to time any way.

The long and the short of it is that you really should look into having a patio if you do not already have one. Chances are it will make entertaining much easier. You will not need to bother about where you are going to seat everybody or where you are going to eat as well as prepare food. You can just do everything in the kitchen as well as on the outdoor patio. You can even braai on the patio with out getting your home filled with smoke.

Cooking Meat Like This Ups Risk of Prostate Cancer

Eating Steak Like We have uncovered some health advice regarding red meat, courtesy of cancer experts in California. If you take a steak, for instance, and pan fry it at high temperatures, you may be increasing your risk of advanced prostate cancer by 40%. If you eat the steak, of course.

It?s another negative health breakthrough for red meat,?which health experts have long suggested we eat in?moderation. Older studies have shown a subtle link?between eating lots of red meat and your prostate cancer?risk. But what of cooking methods?

PLUS: Choosing the Best Cooking Oils

Past studies have identified a cancer risk as a result of?cooking meats at high temperatures. In the new study, data?from about 2,000 men was looked at, with people filling?out a questionnaire about how much poultry and red meat?they ate. Color photographs illustrated how ?done? the?meat was, and was combined with information on how it?was cooked.

The takeaway fact: men eating over 1.5 weekly servings of?red meat, fried on a pan, face an average elevation in?advanced prostate cancer risk of 30%. That risk rose to?40% when men ate over 2.5 servings every week.

Back to the steak for a moment ? in fact, hamburger had a?far higher link than other forms of red meat, which doesn?t?bode well for a nation obsessed with the burger. The?researchers said in a press release that there are different?levels of carcinogens in hamburger, and they can get to?higher temperatures more quickly than steak can.

How about baked poultry? For this, researchers identified a?lower risk for advanced prostate cancer. But if you switch?to pan-fried chicken, the risk goes up. In the study, pan?frying any meat led to a higher prostate cancer risk,?suggesting that it is the most dangerous method of cooking.

Where is this risk coming from? Researchers believe it is?the HCAs (heterocyclic amines) that are formed during the?cooking process. HCAs are carcinogens that can damage?your DNA ? the precise sequence of events that can trigger?a tumor. HCAs are formed when sugars and amino acids?are cooked at a high heat for a long time. There are other?carcinogens, too, like PAHs (polycyclic aromatic?hydrocarbons), which can come about when meat is grilled?or smoked. If a barbecue?s fire catches a drip from the meat,?the smoke that rises back up can leave PAHs on your?burger or spare rib. Heavy evidence also exists for a link?between HCAs and PAHs and cancer risk.

It?s all about understanding cancer risk. If you eat meat,?consider alternative cooking methods to pan frying. And?for the best approach, cut down your weekly exposure to?meat.

Obama-Romney race is focused on 7 states

(AP) ? The race between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to amass the requisite 270 Electoral College votes needed for victory is exactly where it was at the start of the long, volatile summer: focused on seven states that are up for grabs.

Neither candidate has a significant advantage in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Nevada, New Hampshire and Virginia. Those states offer a combined 85 electoral votes.

All this is according to an Associated Press analysis of polls, spending on television advertising and numerous interviews with Republican and Democratic strategists in battleground states.

If the election were held today, the Democrat Obama would have 19 states and the District of Columbia, offering 247 votes, in his column or leaning his way. Republican Romney would have 24 states, with 206 votes.

WCFL Marks 20th Anniversary With Big Celebration

By Lauren Mir? at August 24, 2012 | 12:05 am | Print

WCFL Marks 20th Anniversary With Big Celebration

Last Friday night, nearly 2,000 people gathered at Village Park in Wellington to celebrate two decades of football, family and community as the Western Communities Football League celebrated its 20th anniversary.

What began as a small football league playing on a patch of grass in front of Wellington High School has grown by leaps and bounds in its two decades, launching a new generation of football players, academic scholars and stand-up citizens.

?When the grass would flood, we?d have to play on the other half,? WCFL President Gus Pasquale recalled. ?The organization began with a few hundred players. This year we?re at 650 players for tackle football, 550 for flag and 150 for cheerleading.?

League founder Joe Piconcelli was honored with a Legacy Award at the celebration.

To league officials, WCFL was founded not only to provide recreational sports for young children, but to build character and discipline.

?It has been a great program for the community,? Pasquale said. ?We?re so proud of what it does beyond football. We?re excited to be able to keep the momentum alive.?

The WCFL legacy can be seen in the faces of honored alumni such as Anthony Nelson, Brandon Pendergrass, John Bostic, and Tyler and Shane McDermott, who were inducted into the first class of the organization?s Alumni Honor Roll last Friday.

?These are five young men who grew up playing WCFL football,? Pasquale said. ?They have had distinct accomplishments not only in football at the college level but also academically. We wanted to showcase them as an example for our current players.?

Nelson is a University of Massachusetts graduate, while Pendergrass is a Wake Forest University alum. Tyler McDermott played for Colorado State University, where he is now an assistant football coach. Bostic is a senior starting linebacker for the University of Florida, and Shane McDermott is the starting center on the Miami Hurricanes football team.

?There are bonds created [in the organization] that last forever,? Pasquale said. ?It?s become about more than football.?

The organization offers tackle football for children ages 6 to 13 and flag football for kindergarten through eighth grade, staging 300 games a year. Additionally, it offers a cheerleading program.

Games are held at Village Park on Pierson Road, with this season kicking off Saturday, Aug. 25.

?We are so fortunate, as a service provider, to be within the Village of Wellington,? Pasquale said. ?We know we have support from everyone ? from the mayor to the parks and recreation department. We travel the region and we see that we are truly blessed to have gone from that little patch of grass to the world-class facilities we have now.?

Many of the program?s alumni have gone on to join local high school football and cheerleading teams ? something evident by the number of jerseys on display at Friday?s event.

?There were a slew of former players out there,? Pasquale said. ?One of the neatest things was watching all of the little kids out there interacting with the older kids who are now in high school. It?s a great gift to see kids I?ve known since they were 6 years old in Wellington, Palm Beach Central and King?s Academy jerseys.?

Thanks to a scholarship provided by Equestrian Sport Productions, WCFL will be able to ensure that every child who wants to play can ? no matter their financial hardship.

?Part of our mission is to never deny families from participating in the league, no matter their finances,? Pasquale said. ?Mark [Bellissimo] wanted to get involved and set up a hardship scholarship.?

Pasquale said these funds are crucial, as league sponsorships have dwindled.

?It?s a combination of individual folks who have financial challenges and a significant detraction in sponsorships,? he said. ?Many of our sponsors were construction companies, Realtors and other industries like that. This community was hit really hard in the real-estate department.?

Equestrian Sport Productions has pledged $10,000 a year for three years to help needy children participate. Bellissimo, the company?s CEO, said he first heard of the league from board members who attended events at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center last year.

?We invited the schools to come to our events,? Bellissimo said. ?I had met Nick Iannone ? one of the board members ? at our event. We got to know each other and struck up a conversation about WCFL.?

Bellissimo said he attended a flag football game and was sold on the close-knit community surrounding the game.

?They told me that they were having challenges with sponsorships and trying to provide resources for kids who didn?t have the money to play,? Bellissimo recalled. ?I was impressed with the amount of participation from the community and what a great job they?d done with the organization.?

Bellissimo said he and his wife, Katherine, were touched by their story.

?We want to provide resources for children to participate in this great organization,? he said. ?It represents all that?s great about this community. It?s a special organization that I would not have been exposed to had we not done our Wellington schools program.?
As a frequent coach of his children?s sports teams as they grew up, Bellissimo said he recognizes the benefit that the organization brings to the community.

?My wife and I both realize how important it is that kids are out there being active and pursuing a goal, whether its football, equestrian sports or music,? he said. ?Unfortunately, in difficult times it?s more challenging for families to participate. Hats off to a great group of people who are really making a difference in this community. Anything we can do to help is great.?
